Accounting Specialist

Job Title:  Accounting Specialist
Location: Mostly Mutts Animal Rescue
Reports to: Director Accounting and Finance
Job Type: Full Time
Hours: Monday - Friday; 9am - 5pm
Pay: $25,000 per year, Salary, Non-Exempt

Major Duties and Expectations:

1. General Ledger

  • Perform payroll.
  • Prepare and post journal entries.
  • Maintain proper reconciliations and back-up for transactions.

2. Cash Management

  • Receipt and application of incoming payments, deductions, credits, etc. to accounts.
  • Book bank transactions daily.
  • Create and reconcile weekly receipts.
  • Create and verify bank deposits.
  • Reconcile bank and credit card statements.
  • Audit cash drawers and inventory.

3. Financial Analyzes

  • Reconcile grant receipt against invoicing and reporting.
  • Complete fundraising event reconciliation and provide reporting to leadership.
  • Partner with Director to develop and report on budgets and forecast.
  • Provide ad-hoc analysis as requested by leadership.
  • Provide timely cash flow statements.
  • Provide back-up schedules in support of monthly financial statements.

4. Other duties as assigned by Director

Education/Experience/Skills:

  • Understand and passion for Mostly Mutt’s mission.
  • Associate degree in accounting is required.
  • Non-profit accounting experience is required.
  • Excellent analytical skills are required. Must be able to cross-check work with confidence of a correct result. Must be able to identify opportunities in internal control systems and process improvement as it relates to accurate and timely financials.
  • Highly organized and able to multi-task with attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills are required.
  • Team player with positive attitude.
  • Essential computer skills and expert software knowledge of QuickBooks, ADP, MS Excel and Outlook. Other tools are utilized so must be able to learn quickly.

Physical Setting:  Office environment and part of our adoption center. Must be comfortable with dogs of all sizes.
